Realizing that our foods were not giving us the nutrients that they once did and having developed health issues myself, I began taking the best vitamin supplements I could find. I regularly had my carotenoid levels checked and was able to put my issues to rest with a good vitamin supplement program. However, the supplements were very expensive and I didn’t like the idea of being completely dependent on those supplements for my health and well being. Wasn’t there some way to grow food healthy enough to take the place of the supplements?
The answer is yes. If you garden correctly you can develop soils that are nutrient dense. If your soil is healthy, so will your plant be healthy and you will in turn vibrate with energy that keeps you thinking clear and living strong and happy. One of the most powerful foods I came across in my studies is wheatgrass juice. Wheatgrass has amazing properties and is one of the most healing foods available. It is one of many foods that will cleanse, nourish, balance, and provide essential vitamins and minerals. The thing I like best about it is, anyone can grow it, no matter where you live. Additionally, it covers the earth and is almost free for the taking. It just makes sense to me that God would cover the Earth with something so healing. We’ve just lost the knowledge of what wheat is capable of providing.
Today we are year round growers of wheatgrass. There is always a row in the gardens with wheatgrass growing in it. We juice year round and freeze in little ice cube trays whatever we aren’t going to drink right away. That way we always have juice on hand. If we have a good summer of growing and freezing – there is little that must be grown indoors in the winter. With our hoop houses, we can grow almost 12 months out of the year.
There are many kinds of grinders; we have two, one is a plastic hand grinder and the other an electric grinder. I have been told that the metal hand grinders seem to extract more juice than any. It is important to understand that you cannot get the same benefit from wheatgrass juice if you do not use a wheatgrass juicer. A vegetable and fruit juicer is not the same. The blades of grass must be crushed between cogs or wheels and not shredded. Good wheatgrass juicers are not cheap, but they are a must if you want to benefit from wheatgrass juice.
Many thanks to Living Whole Foods for an eye opening interview and these great instructional videos. The step by step procedures on how to grow and juice wheatgrass are extremely helpful to the beginning sprouter.
